The most donations for Cats or Dogs, will have an extra bag of food donated to their respective species!

**It’s time to turn in the very last design for the Calafia Scrapbook Quilt Competition! There will be a display of all of the past winners and the populace will be able to vote on the last piece, picked up at Leif Erickson, before they are all whisked away to become a beautiful quilt.

**The Provisioner’s Guild is hosting a Sausage Competition!

The details are as follows:

There will be a sausage competition at Winter Arts on Dec. 5th, hosted by the Provisioners guild. If you are interested in competing, please bring 3 to 4 links or patties along with your recipe to the event and sign up with Christoffer Decshel (I’ll mostly be in or near the kitchen). The “lysts” will close 15 minutes after the opening announcements. When you sign up, you will be told when you will be alloted space to prepare your entry. There is only one entry allowed per person. There are no requirements as far as size, casing, or variety. Your goal is simply to put your best sausage forward.

Your judges are Baron Guy (Michael Bilderback) , Parlane of Glenord (Maxwell Adam Diamond), and a mystery judge recruited by the Baron (honestly, I just forgot who it was).

Arts and Sciences String Solar at Calafia Anniversary

The Barony of Calafia’s Arts and Sciences Point will be at Calafia Anniversary! We are inviting the Populace to come join us under the shade, as Lady Grainne and I are hosting a String Solar during the event! Bring your weaving, your embroidery, your Kumihimo, and all other sundry string-based crafts and join us. We will be there all day! It isn’t necessary to have a project to join us, but if you would like to participate, and do not have a project, never fear! We will have some muslin, pre-printed embroidery pieces, cross-stitch patterns, needle, and thread for anyone interested.

For those who were unable to make it to Leif Erickson, but would still like to participate in very last installment for the Scrapbook Quilt competition, we have the design available for pick up. The Leif Erickson piece will be due at Winter Arts and we will vote on the last finished designs to go into the Scrapbook Quilt. After that, all of the winning quilt pieces will be put together to be raffled off at Potrero War 2016.

Looking forward to the lovely day tomorrow!

Summergate Anniversary and Longsword Tournament is this Saturday, April 25th at the beautiful Buddy Todd Park in Oceanside (Buddy Todd Park, 3000 Mesa Drive at Parnassus Circle, Oceanside 92054). Calafia’s Arts and Sciences Point is extending an invitation for the populace to come relax under the shade of the Arts pavilion; whether you have a project in the works, or just want to hang with other Arts & Sciences minded people, come on by!

Besides bringing any largesse you have for Their Excellencies to Arts and Sciences Point on Saturday, don’t forget to bring your looms as we are also hosting a Cardweaving Solar on Saturday! Weavers of any skill are invited to warp up and join us for a day of weaving! This isn’t just for card weavers; if you have a loom, bring it! Curious about card weaving and always wanted to try it? We will have a few loaners on site for folks to try their hand.

We are postponing the Quilt Competition we were planning on hosting at Summergate until after Potrero. This will give everyone more time to finish their pieces at their leisure and enjoy the lead up and flurry of activity before War! We will resume the rest of the competitions after May.

Arts and Sciences Point at St. Artemas Anniversary

Greetings Calafia! We have a couple of Arts and Science announcements for St. Artemas Anniversary, which will be here Saturday, April 4th.

We will be collecting largesse for Baron Guy and Baroness Murrien at Arts and Sciences Point, at both St. Artemas Anniversary and Summergate Anniversary, this month. While at St. Artemas, we will also be holding the next Scrapbook Quilt Competition.

Quite a few of the beehive designs were picked up at St. Isidore Anniversary, so we should see quite a wonderful assortment of embroideries come back for the competition! Please remember that if you picked up a hand drawn design, this is an official competition entry and we are looking forward to seeing your piece returned. It doesn’t matter if you are attempting embroidery for the first time, or this was your 1,000th piece, your embroidery could be chosen for the Scrapbook Quilt of Calafia!

When you arrive at St. Artemas Anniversary, come find Arts and Sciences Point to turn in your finished St. Isidore design. You will be signed in and the voting via People’s Choice will begin approximately 30 minutes after court. If you have any questions, please contact

Until St. Artemas Anniversary, Happy Stitching!

Calafia Scrapbook Quilt: First competition installment at Winter Arts

There is a new competition going on in Calafia: The Calafia Scrapbook Quilt competition! It is an ongoing competition for 2015 and will consist of 9 different images. These will be available throughout the year, starting at Calafia Anniversary 2014. Each of the designs will reflect either the event of the day, or something of our beautiful Barony. Participants will be able to pick up a design at a particular event, which will be announced  prior to the day. Once the designs are picked up, the participants will have until a following event to complete the embroidery, which will be announced that day. There will be a minimum of several weeks to complete the design.

When the day of the competition comes, those that have completed their designs will bring them to the event, and turn them into Arts and Sciences Point. The embroideries will be on display for the day so that the populace can vote on and choose the top two designs that will make it into the quilt!

For Calafia Anniversary, a design of our populace badge was chosen. The Calafia Sea Serpent was the perfect image to start off our competition.

The serpent of Calafia.

Our first design: the serpent of Calafia.

There were 30 designs available, and all were picked up!

The finished serpents were due at Winter Arts. There were several finished embroideries that made it back and placed on the table for everyone to vote on.  There were two that were chosen to become part of the Scrapbook Quilt.

The winning embroideries highlight some of the talent that we have in Calafia!

The next design was one that will hopefully reflect Winter Arts and the coming holidays that fill the end of our year; a branch of holly made up the design for Winter Arts.

Our second design: the branch of holly to represent Winter Arts.

Again, all of the available embroidery squares were picked up by members of the populace. Participants will have until St. Isadore’s Anniversary in February to complete the design. At St. Isadore’s, the finished pieces will once again be displayed and the populace may vote on the best two.

Good luck to all of the participants and we will see you at St. Isadore’s Anniversary!!
