We hope 2015 is treating everyone well so far as we enter the second month of the new year already! The spring is shaping up to be a busy one as usual, with tourney season kicking off at Gyldenholt Unbelted in January. The turn-out for the tournament was truly impressive – 67 fighters in the list! Congratulations to all the fighters who entered; Calafia was very well represented! And congratulations in particular to Lord Duncan Rose who was recognized for being most chivalrous on the field for the day. Huzzah!
And we started off the Calafian tourney season with the Canton of Pol Na Gainmhe to celebrate their anniversary. The generosity and hospitality of the Canton were truly amazing as always, and the companionship of our Eastern friends was warm and most welcome. Thank you all for organizing such a lovely day, and to Lady Raven for the delicious repast. We are looking forward to next year’s anniversary already!
The month of February promises to be a busy one as we continue Calafian tourney season with St. Isidore Anniversary. The weekend after that we will be traveling to Starkhafn to enjoy the very first camping Talon Crescent War! We encourage all Calafians who can attend to do so – help support our friends in Starkhafn as they put on this first full-blown war. We know better than most just how much work it takes to put on an event like this, and we know Starkhafn will greatly appreciate all the help we can give. Following Talon Crescent, we will be returning to Angels to celebrate the arts and honor our own Queen Eilidh at Her Festival of the Rose. If you are able to, please do make the journey up to celebrate with Queen Eilidh. This is always a truly special event for any Queen, and we want to make it a very magical one for this great Lady so near and dear to our hearts!
Though it may not seem like it, Potrero War is coming up quick. The war staff is coming together and beginning to plan. If you are interested in participating on war staff, please contact the event stewards THL Magge Rose and THL Margeret Kerne. They are always looking for deputy stewards who want to get more involved and learn more about what it takes to put on this event. No prior experience is required. If you have any questions about what is involved in being on staff, we would be happy to discuss them with you. Being part of the Potrero crew has always been one of the most rewarding experiences we’ve had in the SCA, and we encourage everyone to give it a try at some point – this year could be your chance!
We are looking forward to a year filled with exciting new opportunities, changes, and times spent with the most wonderful populace of Calafia!
Long live Calafia!
